Newby Hall

From our ace on the spot reporter Margaretta Knowlio

WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY!

(from a wives point of view)

As all members will realise the weather today was absolutely gorgeous, and of course that always adds to the enjoyment of the day, but weather aside, Newby Hall has to be one of the best venues in the country. It is great to attend a venue where the grass has been cut over the entire show area, so that it looked like a beautifully manicured lawn.

This venue has many attractions for the car fanatic, as well as offering something for the lesser mortals (wives incorporated). Once husbands have been fed and watered there is much to do, a visit around the house, a gentle saunter through the grounds which have beautiful gardens and a restaurant where morning coffee or afternoon tea may be taken., Alternatively, a sail along the river is very pleasant on such a glorious day, Unless the idea of an afternoon relaxing with friends and the odd glass of wine, is more appealing. If I’m honest this was the action the wives took today.

Now what about these men of ours’ - They were in their element.

One of the rules for attending Newby Hall is that cars must have been manufactured and registered prior to December 31st, 1972. According to the type of car members own, this may or may not be an advantage, but in any case a visit to Newby, even if it means parking on the visitors car park and taking a walk though the hundreds of cars on display is still a worthwhile day out.

We, as wives were very impressed with number of people who wanted to know all about our Jaguar E Types (three in all) and many people asked if they could have their photographs taken with the cars. Of course we said yes!

When the men returned from their extensive walk around the cars on show, and the inevitable auto jumble, they were also very pleased that they had decided to visit this venue once again. They had many comments to make, but the most consistent one was the quality of the cars on show.

They considered the cars to be of the highest standard they had seen for along time, and one person was heard to comment that if they could pick one show to attend during the season, this would be it.

We had a wonderful day, which the Vero’s Liver’s, Knowles‘s, and Page’s ended with a very pleasant meal at the Tempest, at Elslack, near Skipton, before wending our way home.

John Vero has once again organised a wonderful day out.
