29th October 2007

Dear Member

Our next meeting will take place at 8.00 pm on Monday November 5 th at The Canberra Club, British Aerospace, Samlesbury Aerodrome, Whalley Road , Balderstone, Near Blackburn.

At this months meeting our very own Tony Fryer will be showing his recollections of this years events involving Area 18 that he has recorded on film. Many of you will not realise that Tony is involved with an Amateur Film Club and has been recording our exploits throughout the year. This film is a record of his observations. Tony has gone to a great deal of trouble to produce this film for our enjoyment so give him some support and also see yourself on the big screen.

I only hope that Tony will have a better night than I had at last months meeting when I attempted for the third time to show the film of the legendary XJ220. I once again despite reassurances from the Aerospace Management that the system was bullet-proof was upstaged by a malfunctioning video player. Although you couldn't see me behind the scenes I can assure you that I was doing all that was humanly possible to make the machine work but alas the contraption beat me and we had to abandon half way through. This presentation is too good to miss and I can assure you that I will not let a machine win and I am trying to find an alternative way to show the video. Watch this space!!!

We have just returned from a fantastic long weekend in the wonderful Isle of Man courtesy of The E-Type Register and we were joined by a good contingency of Area 18 Members. I cannot believe that despite the time of year we didn't get wet the whole of the weekend; in fact the weather was glorious as was the company. The highlight for Elaine and me was returning from Ramsey to the Hotel at dusk in a light mist over the mountain, (Snaefell). Whilst being a little eerie it was also a memorable experience. Top down, headlights on giving the E-Type some stick over the famous TT route. Maybe it might be a suggestion for an excursion for Area 18 some time in the future?

Last weekend saw the first of our Sunday lunches this time at The Copy Nook Hotel at Bolton by Bowland organised by John and Kath Butterworth. Some 27 Area 18 members turned up to enjoy a superb meal with great company. Once again we enjoyed superb Autumnal weather. What a fantastic way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Why not join us next time? If you are new to the Area this is an ideal way of meeting your fellow Area 18 members in a social situation

Our next Sunday Lunch will take place as follows:

Or at November's meeting

Jennifer Marsland has asked me to thank all Area 18 members for their kind wishes and concerns after her recent Knee replacement and it gives me great pleasure to inform you that she is now recovering nicely.

Two other members to have had Knee surgery are Clem Camotta and Eileen Mc Gowan both of whom are also thankfully on the mend and we hope to see them soon at Area 18.

We had our annual quiz with Area 15 this month and despite a great turn out of Area 18 members we unfortunately were piped to the post by one point would you believe??? Anyway we had a great night and we will be back. It's our turn to host next year and we will have our revenge.

Thanks for all you eagle eyed members that despite my numerous proof readers spotted my deliberate mistake in last month's newsletter. The Classic Car Show at The NEC is on the 9 th , 10 th and 11 th of November and not October as I reported. This means that if you went in October I hope you enjoyed Dancing on Ice but the good news is you have not missed one of the best events of the year and you are still able to support our very own Mike and Wendy Birtwistle who are representing The E-Type Register and of course Area 18 in The Champion of Champions with their superb Series 1 E- Type. The very best of luck to you both from all the members of Area 18.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting.

John Birchall

P.S. Thanks for all your concerns about our dog Cassie.
